Effects editor and audio processing toolset among the new 7.0 features added to the radio industry’s leading phone recorder/editor used for listener call-ins, artist interviews and recorded spots.

NEW BERN, NC, USA (April 21, 2017) – Veteran on-air personality Kaden will be at the upcoming NAB show demonstrating his on-air skills using VoxPro 7, the new version of the popular recorder/editor for live radio being debuted at the show.

Kaden, a major-market radio air personality for iHeartMedia and CBS Radio in the past, will be at Wheatstone booth N6531 to demonstrate the latest VoxPro features and his rapid editing abilities. “If you do this for awhile, you get very fast. When I’m on-air, my eyes are on the screen, and my fingers do all the work, making the call as tight and entertaining as possible. In my opinion, it’s the easiest and fastest editor, anywhere. I wouldn’t be able to do a full show without a VoxPro,” commented Kaden, who will experiment with VoxPro 7’s new effects editor, audio processing and other features this NAB show. His radio experience includes notable stations KZZP/Phoenix, KKHH/Houston, KMVK/Dallas, KDWB/Minneapolis, Z100/New York, among others. (He can be reached @KADENRADIO on all social media platforms.)

VoxPro is an audio recorder/editor/playback system specifically built for live radio that consists of software and a USB hardware control panel, the control keys of which are mapped to specific functions in the software for exceptionally fast recording and editing without requiring a mouse. Also included on the control panel is a scrub wheel for simple, yet precise editing of voice, sound effects and music clips on two tracks.

VoxPro is the leading purpose-built editor and recorder for live radio, and is used worldwide in studios and newsrooms for live recording and editing of call-ins, interviews, and spots.

For NAB 2017, the industry’s most popular editor/recorder gets a new signal processing toolset that lets talent quickly clean up phone calls for on-air presentation. The new ClipCleaner toolset includes spectral display, parametric EQ, de-esser, compressor, expander, limiter and noise gate for processing channels independently or jointly. With a GUI derived from Wheatstone’s top-of-the-line LXE console, the ClipCleaner toolset comes with a standard library of presets for easy setup.

Also included in VoxPro 7 is FX Macros for creating one-button macros for frequently used effects and other editing operations. FX Macros can be used to create a preset for any effect that can then be assigned to an on-screen button for quick recall. FX Macros can trigger an action or a chain of actions. For example, one click could set up a chain of actions, such as starting with removing silences in a call-in audio file (using GapBuster), then running the result through ClipCleaner, and finally normalizing both host and caller channels for final broadcast. In addition to a new FX Editor, Wheatstone designers also overhauled the VoxPro Effects menu, making special effects like chorus, reverb and distortion much more accessible and making recent effects settings "sticky" for automatic recall.

For navigating through files, a QuikSearch box has been added and conveniently located on-screen along with the ability to color-code files and hotkeys so they’re much easier to see in a long list or a page of hotkeys.

Other additions under VoxPro 7 include support for importing 24-bit files, a new feature in GapBuster to automatically detect the noise floor, and the use of a hardware-based graphics library for smoother and more efficient performance.

“This latest version is all about audio quality and being able to do more in less time,” said Rick Bidlack, lead engineer for VoxPro.

VoxPro natively supports WheatNet-IP audio networking for easy access to any source anywhere in the network. All popular file formats, including MP3, MP2, WAV, AIFF and WMA files can be imported and exported individually or in groups.

VoxPro 7 will be available in June as an upgrade to existing VoxPro versions in the field.

Kaden will be demonstrating his VoxPro chops at Wheatstone booth N6531 at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday of the show, and at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
